EVERYONE DESERVES A BEAUTIFUL PORTRAIT

We cherish moments and memories through photographs and everyone deserves a beautiful portrait of themselves or someone they love as a reminder of those times. Something to pass down through their family over the years—a portrait that your grandchildren will proudly hang in their house to show their children. I can create this for you by capturing a beautiful moment in a relaxed and non-stressful manner. I want the picture to have the quality you would expect from a high end portrait studio and the informality of the snapshots you treasure.

The inspiration for making these portraits is my admiration of two photographers, Mike Disfarmer and August Sander. Both operated portrait studios and created incredible bodies of work that came about by simply opening their doors and making a record of the interaction between photographer and sitter. I hope to make a body of work through von Pamer for Hire that stands the test of time.

MAKE AN APPOINTMENT
Appointments are made by calling 917-699-3410 or by emailing me at jvp (at) johnvonpamer.com. The portrait session itself is informal. The pictures are made at the client’s location of choice. This can include home, work, outdoors or, anywhere you are comfortable. The session can last from one to three hours and is scheduled two weeks in advance. From April through October a private outdoor space in the West Village is available free of charge. A travel fee will be attached to portraits shot outside of NYC. Groups larger than four are subject to an additional fee.

PRICING
The price of the session is $490 (payable through check, cash or paypal) and includes an 8x12 archival print. The pictures are made and printed on state of the art digital equipment. Additional prints are available at the following sizes: 5x8 - $40, 8x12 - $50, 10x14 - $80, 14x20 - $120, 16x24 - $170. An assortment of photos is delivered as a digital contact sheet from which to select your favorite shots. One of these pictures will be featured on my site.

RECOMMENDATIONS
“Over the years I have had to have my portrait taken much more than I ever intended. I am not someone who generally enjoys being photographed but I did with John. He made me feel totally at ease and  managed to make it fun and interesting. I was so happy with end result (a rare occurrence for me!) that I asked him if he had airbrushed it. I recommend John to the highest degree if he can deal with a super self-conscious subject like me!” —Poppy King, The Lipstick Queen

When John’s wife Kerrilynn told me she wanted to feature me on her Ladies of Castor & Pollux blog, she told me that as part of the feature, I would have my portrait taken by John. I was immediately both thrilled and terrified! I couldn’t imagine anything worse than sitting for a portrait, and at the same time, I’d seen John’s work, the beautiful light and the vague and moody settings and most of all the beauty and personality he seemed to draw from his subjects. I might finally have some pictures of myself I would someday show my kids! (I’ve never much liked having my picture taken and so there are regretfully few snapshots, no albums, no frames on the mantle…)
When I arrived for the “sitting” John immediately put me at ease. It felt more like I was having coffee with an old friend, than posing for a portrait. And by the end of an hour, there were more incredible pictures than I’d gathered in a lifetime.
Just last week I hired John to photograph my wedding. I can’t wait to see the pictures! I wish I could bring John along on all the vacations and holidays and parties and afternoons in the park…
